Electronics Test & Development Centre (ETDC), Guwahati was established in 1988 under the Standardisation Testing & Quality Certification (STQC) Directorate of Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India. The centre has come up under STQC program of then Department of Electronics for providing STQC charter of services like: Testing, Calibration, Training & IT services to support the Indian Electronics, IT & other small, medium and large scale industries at national level by helping, improve the quality of their products and services.
Electronics Test & Development Centre (ETDC), Guwahati is one among the nation-wide chain of 15 STQC test laboratories in addition to 1 (one) Centre for Reliability (CFR) & 1(one) Indian Institute of Quality Management (IIQM) operating in the North-Eastern region under the Standardisation Testing & Quality Certification (STQC) Directorate of Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, Government of India. STQC charter of services in the field of Electronics & Information Technology includes:
- Standardisation support to attain National / International level of product quality.
- Implementation of National & International Certification scheme to achieve requirements of qualitative performance, general safety, electro-magnetic compatibility, environmental management system as well as information security.
- Testing of Electronic & IT products as per National / International standards.
- Calibration of measuring instruments to ensure measurement, accuracy and traceability.
- Support, counsel and train to develop a product or a system.
- E-Security, software testing, software quality engineering etc.
- Reliability assessment and failure analysis.
- This laboratory is professionally managed by qualified Scientists & Test Engineers supported by state-of-the-art sophisticated equipment & machineries. Small, medium, large scale Industries, professional bodies, government, private and public sector units of north-eastern region & other parts of the country are the beneficiaries.

This laboratory has achieved the following accreditations:
(i) NABL accreditation in compliance to ISO/IEC 17025:2005 International Standard in the fields of Electro-technical, Thermal, Mechanical and Optical calibration.
